Trans Body III
Trans Body III
A dance making process that celebrates the transgender experience.
The project asks the questions: How do we embody and perform our own history? How do we tell stories about ourselves through movement? How can we express trans identity through dance?
Trans Body III is presented in partnership with New Haven Pride Center and sponsored by The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven.
The live sharing is virtual and FREE!
You can stream on March 31st @ 5pm on Facebook or YouTube
National Water Dance 2020
On April 18, 2020 at 4pm (Location TBD) ECDC will participate (for the second time) in the National Water Dance. National Water Dance is an artist- driven collective of dancers and educators confronting critical water issues facing the United States. National Water Dance participants create simultaneous, site-specific dance performances with people of all ages and experience around the nation. Artists participating in the National Water Dance believe that our environment is the most pressing issue and needs immediate attention.
Who will we serve and where? Our National Water Dance project services the community in two ways. One, it is a performance opportunity for any body who would like to participate in bringing attention to the fragility of our waters and the severity of climate change through dance. Two, the audience, passersby, attendees, hikers, walkers and Friends of East Rock Park will witness dance as activism through performance. We will bring together a large and diverse community of non-movers and movers alike, professional artists and at least one community partner. We hope to engage people with the help of our influential community leaders who are committed to inclusion and social justice.

The participants will share what they made with choreographers, Lindsey Bauer and Kellie Ann Lynch on Tuesday, Nov 19 @ 6pm.

CLASS DESCRIPTION: Connection and Spontaneity in Contact Improvisation
At the heart of contact improvisation is the connection between ourselves and our partner. When this connection is open and grounded yet sensitive and fluid, it becomes the starting point for the unfolding of spontaneity and surprise. Through games, exercises, and explorations, this workshop examines connection in contact improvisation and its role in unlocking a kaleidoscope of possibilities. From this foundation, we will work our way into lifts and descents with an emphasis on both safety and spontaneity. Dancers of all levels are welcome, including complete beginners.
Jonathan Lilly came to contact improvisation in 2013, after twenty years of training in aikido, a martial art that can be said to be a direct ancestor of this dance form. His movement and teaching styles are deeply informed by his experience with the Feldenkrais method of somatic education, as well as by a daily meditation practice in the Tibetian Buddhist tradition. He has taught workshops or classes in contact improvisation at a half-dozen locations in the US and Canada. In his day job, he studies ocean physics.

If You Knew You Then
"If You Knew You Then", is a patchwork reconstruction of circumstances evolved from revisiting past behaviors and memories of the dancers' younger selves. Emerged from themes such as leader and follower, aggression, tension and support, and peer influence, the 60-minute work builds a robust movement landscape where the performers are challenged with negotiating group chemistry and social constructs as they move through a social and solitary terrain.
Choreography by Kellie Ann Lynch in collaboration with dancers: Luis Antonio, Lindsey Bauer, Tara Burns, Nikki Carrara, Kellie Lynch, Samantha Russell and Alicia White.
World Premiere 2017: March 31 & April 1, 7, 8 | Fri & Sat | Shows at 7pm & 9pm
